2025年大阪万博におけるアイスランド

The World Expo is currently taking place in Osaka for the first time since 1970. It runs from April 13 to October 13, 2025. What makes this Expo particularly exciting is Iceland’s prominent role. This is excellent news, as increased contact between Iceland and Japan can bring significant benefits. Introducing more Japanese products to the Icelandic market would be a positive development. Given Iceland’s small size and limited market, expanding our product options will create greater opportunities and contribute to a more vibrant economy.

The program offers many fascinating highlights, such as the food section in early September and the theme of a peaceful society. This is an ideal moment to discuss peace, especially as so many disruptions occur on both large and small scales. Japan is now in the Reiwa era, meaning “Beautiful Harmony.” The world truly needs more peace.

In his opening statement at the World Expo, the Prime Minister emphasised the importance of unity in a divided world. Amid ongoing wars and economic tariffs, the mission of fostering harmony calls for greater peace. Japan is welcoming an increasing number of tourists and visitors; thankfully, most are respectful, though a few cause problems. He spoke eloquently, and I wholeheartedly agree—amid division, we must strive for unity.

首相は万博の開会演説で、分断された世界における結束の重要性を強調しました。戦争と経済関税が続く中で、調和を育むという使命は、より一層の平和を求めています。日本はますます多くの観光客や来訪者を迎え入れています。ありがたいことに、ほとんどの方は礼儀正しく接してくれますが、中には問題を起こす人もいます。首相の雄弁な言葉に、私も心から賛同します。分断の渦中にある今こそ、私たちは結束を目指して努力しなければなりません。

I sincerely hope that the Expo will be truly extraordinary, serving as a remarkable event that brings all of us together in a spirit of harmony and lasting peace. May this special occasion open up even more exciting opportunities for Icelandic craftsmanship to be showcased and appreciated abroad, while also strengthening and deepening the cultural and economic bonds between Iceland and Japan in meaningful and enduring ways.
